Hawaiian Songs
ABOUT THE SONG
Ūlili Ē is a Hawaiian song credited to George Keahi and Harry Naope and is associated with the classic sound of the Sons of Hawaiʻi. The lyrics describe the ʻūlili, or sandpiper, moving along the shoreline by a calm sea, and the lively melody reflects the bird’s movement. A well-known recording by Israel Kamakawiwoʻoleappeared on his 1995 album E Ala E. Published ukulele arrangements are commonly in C major, 4/4 time, with a bright tempo around 168 BPM. On ukulele, it is a wonderful piece for practising Hawaiian rhythm, clean chord changes and a light, flowing strumming style.
