ABOUT THE SONG

Chim Chim Cher-ee was written by brothers Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman for Disney’s Mary Poppins, released in 1964. The song is written in a lilting 3/4 waltz feel and is commonly published in a minor key, which gives it its distinctive mysterious and nostalgic character. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 1965 Oscars, while Mary Poppins won five Academy Awards overall. Its memorable melody and gentle swing make it a great ukulele piece for practising waltz rhythm, smooth chord changes and expressive playing.
