ABOUT THE TASK
Tuning an ukulele is an essential skill for achieving the best sound from this charming instrument. The history of ukulele tuning dates back to its origins in Hawaii, where it was developed based on Portuguese machete and rajão. Early ukuleles were often tuned to a standard G-C-E-A, known as re-entrant tuning, creating a unique and bright sound. Today, ukuleles come in four main sizes – soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone – each with its own unique tuning pattern. Soprano and concert ukuleles are typically tuned to G-C-E-A, while tenor ukuleles can be tuned to G-C-E-A as well, but occasionally to a lower D-G-B-E. Baritone ukuleles are usually tuned to D-G-B-E, which is the same as the highest four strings on a guitar. These various tunings allow players to explore different tonal ranges and musical styles.
